Inherited money may be part of a funding history, but it does not make EB-5 and Gold Card the same arrangement. Compare the governing requirements before deciding which proposal to explore.
Understand the EB-5 investment
For EB-5, use the petition-date minimum: currently US$1,050,000 or US$800,000 for a qualifying targeted employment area or infrastructure investment, with statutory adjustments from January 1, 2027. Assess at-risk capital, management or policy participation and ten qualifying full-time jobs per investor under the applicable method; eligible derivatives do not need separate principal investments.
Understand the government gift
Official Gold Card terms describe a nonrefundable US$15,000 processing charge and, after successful vetting, a US$1 million individual principal gift or US$2 million corporate principal gift. Eligible family members add their own charges. EB-1 or EB-2 eligibility, admissibility and visa availability remain relevant.
Examine the personal record and later steps
Bring the actual inheritance and prior immigration records for assessment. Keep conditional-residence and removal-of-conditions responsibilities visible for EB-5, and follow current official Gold Card instructions. Neither available funds nor a payment receipt establishes a guaranteed result. For EB-5, conditional residence begins at immigrant-visa admission or adjustment approval. I-829 is generally filed within the 90 days before its second anniversary; filing does not itself remove conditions. For Gold Card, follow the official gift instructions after successful vetting and assess EB-1 or EB-2 eligibility, admissibility and visa availability; neither payment nor a project report grants residence.
