Your talent.A bigger stage.

A Strathroy-Caradoc applicant with a U.S. professional offer faces the identical TN test as anyone else: prearranged work in a listed occupation, held by an eligible citizen who meets that occupation's own qualification rule. What differs is the extra fact pattern worth disclosing honestly — a farm, a second property, or a family operation staying active in Ontario — none of which changes the legal test, but all of which belong in an accurate file.

IN THIS GUIDE · Keep a farm or rural property question separate from the occupation test

Start with the TN eligibility and application overview

01

Confirm the position independent of any relocation plan

Get the actual duty list and reporting structure regardless of whether the applicant intends to relocate full-time or split time between Ontario and the U.S. Hypothetical example: an offer assumes the applicant will be on-site five days a week, while the applicant privately plans to commute periodically to manage a family farm. Surface that gap early rather than letting the paperwork describe a schedule that will not actually happen.

02

Apply the same credential rule as any other applicant

The listed occupation's degree, licence, or stated experience alternative does not change based on a rural address. Identify the specific document supporting the qualification and keep original transcripts or licences available. A rural or agricultural background does not create an alternate credential path for an occupation that requires a specific one. TN is for Canadian or Mexican citizens undertaking qualifying temporary professional activity. A degree from an institution outside Canada, Mexico or the United States needs the applicable credential evaluation; the applicant’s current address does not determine that requirement.

03

Disclose an active farm or business honestly

If the applicant or household continues to operate a farm, rental property, or small business from Ontario, describe that arrangement plainly, including who manages it day to day if the applicant is largely in the United States. This does not by itself disqualify a TN case, but an inconsistency between a described full relocation and an undisclosed ongoing local operation is the kind of gap a reviewer will need explained. Separately disclose ownership of the U.S. recipient of the professional services: a recipient solely owned or controlled by the applicant falls within the prohibited self-employment boundary. Ownership of a separate Ontario business is not automatically that situation.

04

Confirm the applicable process and any prior history

Canadian citizens generally seek TN admission at an eligible port of entry or preclearance location, or through an employer's USCIS petition where appropriate. Confirm which currently applies and disclose prior U.S. travel or immigration history. A rural residence does not change the procedural options available to an otherwise eligible citizen. Mexican citizens generally require a TN visa before seeking admission; Canadian permanent residence alone does not confer TN eligibility.

05

The hotel manager profession has its own credential rule

Proof of Canadian citizenship, the degree parchment or an official transcript, and a letter from the U.S. company describing forestry work in the profession's own terms, the expected pattern of deployment, the period and the remuneration. Once the real duties are documented, compare them with the profession being claimed and with the credential that listing accepts, since requirements differ by profession and some listings include experience-based alternatives while others do not.
