IN THIS GUIDE · Keep nursing credentials, immigration certification and the job offer distinct
Confirm the TN basis for the proposed work
TN requires Canadian or Mexican citizenship and qualifying temporary professional activity. Assess the offered nursing duties and the listed qualification, rather than assuming employment by a hospital establishes the category. Disclose any ownership in the U.S. entity receiving the services; a solely owned or controlled recipient raises the prohibited self-employment boundary.
Identify the separate health-care certification
Nurses providing health-care services are subject to the applicable federal certification requirement in addition to the other immigration requirements. Use a certification from an organization approved for the purpose, following the relevant rules. A general credential report or professional licence should not be assumed to replace it. Check current approved-provider information before paying for a service.
Check professional practice requirements
Ask the relevant nursing board about the authority needed to practise in the intended state and the current application sequence. Keep that process separate from the immigration submission. Bring any existing licence or board communication to the reviewer; an employer's projected orientation date does not resolve an outstanding licensing question.
Make a document-purpose checklist
For every document, write down the issuing body, the requirement it addresses and any date that matters. Identify outstanding records before arranging travel. A file is easier to assess when a certificate is labelled by its actual purpose rather than all documents being grouped under the word credentials.
